Band...help wanted.

So I'm toddling around gumtree (Yeah, toddling...god, I come up with some crap sometimes) the other day and came across this list of influences:

Aisha Duo, Akron/Family, Amiina, Andrew Bird. Animal Collective, Annuals, Battles, Arcade Fire, Atlas Sound, Bat for Lashes, Blonde Redhead, Bon Iver, Broken Social Scene, Calexico, Chad VanGaalen, Charge Group, Clogs, Crayon Fields, CSS, The Cure, Decoder Ring, Dirty Projectors, Dirty Three, Empire of the Sun, Explosions in the Sky, Firekites, Fleet Foxes, Gorillaz, Jeff Buckley, Grizzly Bear, Joanna Newsom, Jose Gonzalez, Joy Division, Kasabian, Kronos Quartet, Metronomy, MGMT, The Middle East, Midnight Juggernauts, Mogawi, Mono, My Brightest Diamond, The Notwist, Of Montreal, Philip Glass, Terry Riley, Portishead, The Postal Service, Rachel's, Radiohead, The Rapture, Sigur Ros, Sonic Youth, Stars, Steve Reich, Sufjan Stevens, Telepathe, Blitzen Trapper, Monsters of Folk, M. Ward, My Morning Jacket, Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, David Bowie, BEat Happening, Beach House, Spacemen 3, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Smashing Pumkins, The Drums, Dum Dum Girls, An Horse, The Raveonettes.

Oh yeah, someone has good taste in music.
You'd TOTALLY be forgiven for assuming it was me but, no, it's not. Crazy.

I emailed the kid to congrat him on the aural lithium he's subjected his ears to.

Anyways. He's looking for almost anybody, who plays almost anything.

Being musically retarded I feel the need to compensate by helping recruit people for projects.

Anyways for more info go here.

If you hate the idea well... I may lead you to fire but, I'm not asking you to roll around in it.

Team Sleep- Death by Plane

Just a thought, if you're a band. Set up a shitty little page on wikipedia and link yourself to genres and similar bands. Link yourself to anything that could apply to you.

I might stumble upon you.

I might like you.

I might even blog about you.

Then again, you could be shit and not worth mentioning.

Just sayin'.

Lo Fi

Low Fidelity music apparently goes by Lo-Fi now.

Apparently it's a genre. Kids, you can now be defined by your equipment and how you record.

The Microphones- I Felt Your Shape

Delayed Midlake Love

Midlake.

On Bella Union records. Maybe they're good at their job and I should check 'em out. Wait here a moment. In the mean time:

Midlake- Roscoe
I swear I listened to something similar as a kid.

Gold star for Bella Union...yeah. You can tell I'm enthused.

I should be more enthused seeing as Wavves is on Bella Union and I've decided they're rad. But, man, I'm tired. I need a nap.

Waves- Weed Demon

More from Interpol-ish

Julian Plenti.

Paul Banks from Interpol.

Solo.

Because he needs to prove himself.

REALLY.

He hasn't made me jizz my pants enought with Interpol's sexy time music, so now he's gonna make me drool some more.

Julian Plenti- Games for Days

Why? WHY????

You sexy bastard.

(PS. Julian Plenti site is cruddola. I'd be satisfied with a myspace though, not this one though, it looks like a lazy fan set it up... where's your myspace PAUL? I WANT SEXY PHOTOS!)

Ahem. Yes.

See? SEEEEE?!

I told you.

Snowman and others

So these guys aren't new to me.

I've known about them since they supported Interpol at the Enmore Theatre... Oh Carlos, your cop phase, much better than your cowboy phase...in 2005.

Two albums later they're an ipod staple.

I urge you to check 'em out on their myspace here.

Snowman- Swimming With Sharks

Snowman- We Are The Plague

These guys are on Dot Dash Records. Part of the Remote Control family.
I'd recommend subscribing the the Remote Control Channel which can be located here.

Such very rad goods can be found. I'll only show you a couple because frankly I'm just not going to do everything for you. Well i'll feed you music but, I won't tuck you in at night. Okay, if I must.

What's your address?

/Creepiness.

The XX- Crystalised

Beirut- Elephant Gun

Everything Everything- Suffragette Suffragette

Bombay Bicycle Club- Dust on the Ground

Okay so Bombay Bicycle Club isn't on Remote Control. It's on Island Records. I just found it and liked it. So listen or suck it.

It's true

My apologies in advance.

Just for the record.

I roll my eyes at AC/DC, Bon Jovi and Jimmy Barnes.

After I roll my eyes I kind of make this "URGHHHH..." sound. If I'm in a place where everyone loves said bands I try and wipe my disgusted expression off my face.

It doesn't always work.

A Dead Forest Index

So I'm heading to Melbourne in January (possibly) and have been looking around for gigs to go to while I'm there.

Our Anatomy are playing the East Brunswick Club with A Dead Forest Index.

BEHOLD! 18 seconds of Youtube time?

Yeah, I was like 'wha, you foo? Didn't want to record a WHOLE song brotha?'.

Okay so I was more like '18 seconds...snaps for you...FAIL!'.

I don't say brotha or foo.

Anyways if that 18 seconds took to your liking, as it did mine.

Go to their myspace here.

There was also an interview on youtube which, I'll refrain from showing you.

Bad audio and therefore not the most interesting. Well I'm sure it would be if you pull out the hearing aids for the 20 seconds of explaining the band name and saying they're about to record the first album.

So where are these EPs we are supposed to be able to buy guys?
EPS COME BEFORE ALBUMS and between other albums when you kind of need to tie us over.

Kick open an itunes account would ya?

Urgh. Nap time.

I swear, this is the last post for today.

Alec Ounsworth.

Solo record. I'm a little undecided about this one. But, he can do no wrong to me at the moment. I almost forgot how to spell moment just then.

You can check him out here.

I'm listening to this whilst typing this. I've decided now. Like, not loving. Just liking. Not saying it won't grow on me but, I'm committed to buying the album.

Well done Alec. You've made a sale and your myspace friend count just went up to 247.

Booyah.

I really shouldn't have said "and then some more" because frankly here's some more and the earlier post was the first of the day and that's misleading

Flashy Python. Yes another CYHSY side band. Suck it non-fans! Yeah, you heard me.

YAY!

And then some more!

ARGH!

Yes! Argh! BLEH! BAAAAA! YEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!

That's what just went through my head. And something even LESS coherent came out of my mouth. Kinda sounded like this:

AHHHHHGHHHHHHHHHAAHHHHH. (Smile).

So, I was just at Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's website and was browsing around hoping by some chance they'd post that they're doing a spotaneous tour tonight, around the corner from me, and it's free, and they want to hang out with my after. No? Too much?

I was just hoping they'd announce even a single. A COLLABORATION WOULD DO.

Didn't get that. What I did get was info on side projects such as Uninhabitable Mansions.

I'm actually a bit wary of side projects. They suck sometimes. It's hard to maintain respect for a band member of an awesome band when they go off on their own and do something shit.

I should probably look at it as some sort of release method because they can't use crap in the main band they're part of. I don't look at it that way. SHAMEEEEE.

(Like I can talk. My singing was used by the CIA as a torture tool.)

Anyhoo. Surprise, surprise, Uninhabitable Mansions takes my fancy! I have a crush on it. So I've gone and embedded their little nifty player here below. (PS, awesome marketing there.)

Mmmm... feel the non-shitty side-band-ness.

Joyhouse.

Filthy

Went to gig last night presented by The Filth who do the free Wednesday gigs at Beach Road Hotel. (Yes, I had to go to Bondi. Boo)

Anyhoo Clap Clap Riot supported.

And The Scare headlined.

Clap Clap Riot put on a good show (What the fudge is with the bass player though?) and The Scare went nuts as usual.

I don't know if it's just me but, I'm getting sick of the 'I'm SO affected' act.

Just sayin' if your music is good we'll appreciate it. We don't need a mental hospital stage show. Not sayin' I don't mind some running, jumping, crazy dancing etc. I just don't want your incoherent mumbling.
It BORES me and you should be singing. Not talking. SINGING NOT TALKING.

Unless you're funny.

Which you're not.

/End rant.

RIPPING DYLANS!

So I was shimmying around myspace this morning...because these days shimmying is a mode of searching. Yes.

And low and behold I find a band I ACTUALLY like.

They're called Ripping Dylans.

You can check them out HERE

Now, it may just be me but, I get super excited about finding music I like. I search through their pages, I check around for reviews, I look for footage and official videos, I check on itunes for tracks and then I look around to see if I can order anything from their website or other cd websites. I like to see multiple tracks, videos and biography.

I'm usually successful. This time, not so much.

The Ripping Dylans have NOTHING. One track on their myspace and occassional posting of tour dates on Facebook is all your gonna get ladies and gentleman.

SHAME ON YOU RIPPING DYLANS! SHAME ON YOU!

Shameeeeeeeeeeee.

Now I checked on youtube and they've got a film clip for Folk Self Annihilation but, it's not here nor there on facebook and myspace, noooo. Wouldn't wanna put it there.
These are the core of social networking sites at the moment. I can't understand why this clip hasn't been posted to them. I feel like it's a big waste to dump it on youtube and not at least link to it.

People will get bored with the same lack of informaton and while some will look further a lot won't.

So I'm just saying. If you have a band. Don't neglect fans and potential fans by not informing them on what you're doing.

Show us what you can do, what you have done and give us a freakin hint where we can buy something of yours!

SHAMMMMMEEEEEE!
