Red Riders

Sound It Out!

Where Maree and I live there are many a many thrift store, one of which I discovered has one of the boys from Red Riders working. Seems like a lovely boy in spite of all the band promotion postered on the premesis.

Anyway, to the point. I just watched their film clip to 'Ordinary'.
So simple, like the song, and so affective.

I had the equivalent of a 'baby moment' for other girls. You know, when you look at it, and your whole body just exclaims "Awwwwwwwwwww". Cute.

And now I've just introduced my lameness to the blog. I have music baby moments.

Deal.

Marie

Works for me.

I've been after this song for forever and a half.

Apple Centre: My favourite fruit.

Sound It Out!

Paul Dempsey

Apple Store, run by LIVE.

I caught wind (I got the standard e-newsletter) of Paul Dempsey playing a set at the Apple Store last week and decided to check it out.

I heard there was limited space so to get there early, 8.15pm for a 9pm start? Not that early? WAY EARLY!

Itunes were giving out those around the neck passes with a Paul Dempsey card inside the plastic sleeve. First thought was “AWESOME! I needed a new tag holder for my uni pass. Now, I don’t have to buy one.”

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I’m down with the cheap ‘n’ free.

Once I got past the onslaught of freeness I realised what great marketing. You put a bunch of music loving kiddies into the Apple Store by choice to see a free band whilst surrounded by pretty, pretty and EXPENSIVE Apple merchandise and cue salivating.

I believe the words “I want” came out of my mouth even when I wasn’t staring at the God that is Paul Dempsey. God. Don’t care what you say. God!

SO, back to the gig.

The crowd spanned all three floors of the Apple Store, heads turned dutifully to Mr Dempsey.

He played all new songs from the recently released album of which, I am yet to buy, as well as a brilliant cover of Betty Davis Eyes even if I somehow prefer the Gwyneth Paltrow version. I can’t believe I just admitted to that.

The venue was dramatic and absolutely fit for music consumption. I’d really like to know if they were thinking about live music when the building was refurbished for the likes of Apple?

The glass surroundings and the lighting made it feel intimite...thought not as much as i'd like, giggity, giggity... between the fans and Dempsey, even though hundreds of passers by stopped, stared and took pictures outside.

I think this can be equally attributed to both PD and crew. Solo PD pulled off a closeness with the crowd which I think is the reason he has a loyal fan base. He works for it.

He played the two singles from his solo album ‘Ramona was a waitress’ and ‘Out the Airlock’.

And was consistently on game all night. I’m always amazed that such a tall creature can emit such a high pitched sound.

To cut it short: Awesome.

Lefsetz

Bob Lefsetz

As a music business student I get exposed to lots of lovely music and lovely information. Such as linkage to Mr Lefsetz.

A great man with many an opinion.

He may send you too many emails to be bothered to read.
He may say some things that you just don't understand.
He may even reference people who you didn't even know existed saying they're big in the industry.
But, gosh darn it, he does write some really amazing stuff sometimes. And sometimes is much better than not at all.

So do yourself a favour. Subscribe. Because even if you only read one email a month you might end up reading the one that inspired you to do something amazing.

Dappled Cities

Dappled Cities- Zounds

I'm not sure when they decided to kick the 'fly' from their name but, it seems kick has turned to 'kick ass'.

I've finally ripped the bandaid off to see what's been under since I first listened to them at the Cockatoo Island Festival.

Opener 'Hold Your Back' sets the albums curve.

It's not echoing through my universe but, worth the listen. It's one of those hit-miss, slow burn to goodness LP's it seems.

After the fifth listen so far 'Missing Ships' has suckered me into the score leaving first single 'The Price' to be the sibling you ditched to hang out with your friends at the mall. You're related, just not by choice.

I think 'The Price', although a catchy song as regarded by airplay, doesn't show the mood of the album nor the brilliance that slowly emerges. Even if that brilliance doesn't seem too diverse.

So kick arse? Yes. Classic? No.

The Writing Word & Sound It Out!

To you fair reader,

So we just got back from pilfering the neighbourhoods flowers, they were hanging over the fence so fair game, right?

We have so many assessments due so naturally we rearranged the loungeroom. Having finished that, this seems to be the perfect time to procrastinate further and start our blog which has been in planning process for the last week. Perfect practice for the weight of refined analytical theory of our respective industries. Or maybe not. Either way we hope to have a fun time sharing our thoughts with you and hopefully getting your thoughts in return!

So here to introduce ourselves, we are Marie and Maree, one place where you can find information on Music and writing, whatever your interest. Lacking the words to further explain something that we are only just beginning to understand ourselves, please read on and enjoy.

Yours truly,
Marie&Maree.

Edit: Maree is a way no on this project (obviously...)
