Filth? Unlikely.

During the week I was sold a wristband for Filth Festival at the Annandale which, was on yesterday.

I had no other gigs on, no other plans and I whole lot of free time...didn't know a band on the bill though.

I stayed from Winter People to Royal Chant.

I wasn't expecting too much from the whole day but, sometimes I get surprised.

After so-so sets from Winter People and The Ivy's I thought I'd be in for hitting the snooze button.

Then came along The Joysticks. Sticks of joy indeed! They were interesting on stage, their tunes were alive and they just kicked some rad.

After a few more whatever bands along came The Vignettes.

Young? Yes. Wild? Somewhat. Enertaining? Fuckin' A.

They had crazy songs (including the best cover of Ginuwine's Pony I've EVER heard...not that I've heard any others)nutty onstage banter (even if it was laugh 'at' not 'with'- but still, good one kids) and they kicked ass as a two piece with female drummer. Check out.

Anyways. Stayed for Royal Chant in aid of moral support (not that they needed it) as my lecturer is their manager. Not my kind of music but, they're together on stage, sounds are structured well and they look good. Yes, they are somewhat attractive.

Anyways. I've said enough nothing on something.

So I almost forgot about this place...

I did merchandise for Metronomy last Thursday (if you were there. Buy a frickin t-shirt, they were rad, you missed out. Sucked in. Metronomy were good though weren't they? Surprised? Well yeah, a little).

Anyway.

I did it for Popfrenzy having never met nor heard Metronomy or Danimals before...and no, I hadn't met Metronomy after either. Boo.

Danimals started off.

(To interject before I forget: cdwow.com.au cheap cds, good range and sometimes free postage. Rad.)

Reminded me slightly of younger happier Radio Dept. and maybe some Because of Ghosts.

A fair amount turned up for this lot. Good thing too, because that meant I got a view from my corner.

And then, Metronomy. By this point I still had ten of their shirts left... and my view was blocked.

So after a couple of songs I cracked it, stood up and this is what I saw (Well not exactly...couldn't find shots from the night):

Lights? Lights!
And they flash...in unison, out of unison...in succession!

So I'm not usually so impressed by 'special effect' crap like this... I rolled my eyes a fair bit at Kings of Leon with their light show... don't hate, the girl next to me loved it and was showing her love through high pitched dramatisations... hellish. Metronomy pulled it off. It also helped that they had cute british accents and announced that their some of their songs were 'for the ladies'. Ahh, sleazy yet acceptable.

Anyways. To cut this long rant somewhat short. Go listen to Metronomy. If you've just heard 'Heartbreaker' delve further. It'll be a great surprise.
