Kyu for me and you!

Kyu at the Metro.

I've only known about Kyu for about three months. Luckily though, there's no trial period for religious cults.

That's right, I consider them a religion. A fairly easy going one where I imagine the only rules are 1. to not get bread crums in the nutella jar (Bread moulds people! Don't you understand! I can't eat around the mould, it's just not right! GODDAMMIT IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT) and 2. to like their music. The later easily done.

Anyhoo, their launch is next Friday and I'm doing le merch. I use 'le' because that way my job sounds more fancy. Now I'm telling you this because it's sold out and I like to gloat.

SOLD OUT.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA...HA...HAAAAAAAAAA. Yeah.

Lucky for you all, they're doing a second show at Good God Small Club on Saturday 28th October. Tickets from HERE.

So check em out here, here or here.

Collecting Spoons

I'm Down [DEMO] by The Spoon Collectors

So this may have been a while ago but, I went to the Bald Faced Stag and wrote this afterwards.

Wow, you guys get updated really fast hey? No. Well fuck you this is my blog.

Spoon Collectors

The Bald Faced Stag is kind of like the that big eyed lemur in youtube videos. It's there. You want to see it but, it's just that little bit creepy lookin'.

Although with the Stag it's more the old men and the intrusive snooker players that's way creepy.

On the plus side there's bands.

I went to see JMC band The Spoon Collectors at a mates request. With a set totalling two songs I was mother fuckin' making SURE it was going to be a good night. I paid my tenner and entered the two thirds full room. The crowd was an eclectic mix of pop-tarts, hipsters and anything-core kids.

With nothing much happening on stage or just nothing interesting it was off to socialise.

Two angry hobos on and a broken table later and I was back inside.

The Spoon Collectors entered onstage to an attempted uproar of applause (Nice try kids). They started off with single 'Down'. I wasn't expecting much from them but, fuck man, these guys came together like Motley Crue and mullets.

They all rocked out simultaneously, the type of rocking out that comes from knowing you're good. And I accepted that because yes, they're good. They're style of prog-rock is new and I can't think of a band to relate them to... Maybe that's a good thing though.

The second song "carnival" started in a merry go round of crazy guitar riffs. Not as catchy as 'Down' if you don't count the start off riff but, a follow up song that shows the band has something.

They finished with a modest speech thanking organisers and bands. I noted that I wasn't thanked and therefore found that it was time to storm home in a huff or more likely finish my drink and head off to a party.

So yeah. They're good. You can check them out here.

Great video. I like it when musicians stray from their musical home and get it right.

I'm NOT talking about you, Victoria Beckham. No, not at all.

I have never seen a creepier video involving bunnies EVER.

Barn Owl

I hate it when you find out about a band and you find out that they don't have the means nor do you for that matter to go see them. Damn you scientists! Where's my Jetsons travel machine?! It's 2010 and I still have to catch a plane. BOOOOOO!

Anyways. I'm doing this to you all. Welcome to band you're possibly going to get cranky that you can't go see:

Orca Team

The Orca Team may well be my favourite Portland band. To be fair it's not a huge win. I don't know where my favourite bands are situated. But, it's still a win... unless Interpol are in Portland? No? Well Orca Team still win.

That being said, they sound dreamy.

See?

Why am I so good to you guys? Givin' you heads up on cute shit, finding you free stuff... doin' your mum... heh. No.

Anyhoo. They're on... nope. Nope, no info on their label...just says 'indie'. I'm assuming that's independent and unsigned. Woo. Screw the man Orca Team. SCREW. THE. MAN.

Just kidding. ORCA TEAM guys! ORCA Team.

I'm not really going anywhere with this. I just can't seem to finish. BLAHHH!

Cat Cat

I stumbled upon Cat Cat this morning through Die! Die! Die!'s comment section. This chick said something funny and so I clicked on her page and she liked this other band so I looked through her pages... never mind.

Main thing is I found them. They're not the easiest to google info about due to Cat being a very googled word 'I has cheeseburger' anyone? You get my point.

Anyways, they have a couple of Youtube viddys which, I'll post below and some great songs which I won't post below because I'm technologically challenged...

They have an EP called 'Dig Mountains' (2009) out through Birds Love Fighting.

Good news about it too... it's free. Besides, who doesn't love music that can be described as Kraut Rock? Eh? Eh?

You get my point...

Can you fall in love with a disc?

Hell yeah, you can.

What was even better was the link that was posted on my facebook wall later in the night after receiving the mother flipping drool worthy cd. (BUY IT)

The link was for an amazing taping of Wild Beasts in Williamsburg.

Once i'd nabbed the recording I started to check out nyctaper.

Goodies to be had. So check them out.

Let me repeat myself just in case too.

Our Anatomy

Our Anatomy (Another band who I've been waiting for!!!) Are in town tonight!

It's $10 so cheap as chips. You need to see these guys. NEED.

AHHHH! I'm so excited.

Anyhoo... next to fulfill my music fantasies is to see Dead Forest Index.
*HINT*

You know what i like to do late at night? Eh? Eh?

Go to gigs.

So I went that Fbi radio fundraiser on Thursday night. Freakin' awesome.

Four bands played and they were ALL GOOD. When does that happen? When? Really? (Let's not include festivals here, let's not fool ourselves with some highly organised lineups.)

Anyways I got there three quarters of the way through Megastick Fanfare, who were lovely.
They sounded really nice, no real killer songs but, i didn't hear the whole set so they may have had some earlier. I did however have the urge to hug them after the set. Unnatural? Maybe. You judgin'?

Then were the Magnetic Heads. WELL HELLOOOO.
Lot of love here. Like a lot. A LOT.
Even though they seemed to be acting like they were caught half way through dinner and had to rush unprepared on stage I really liked them. Kind of added to the charm. They sounded awesome. If you've ever heard their singles on Fbi, don't really compare, best to go see them.

After them was The Maladies.
It seemed most came for the Maladies, they hogged the audience on the night.
Yes, they had power behind them.
They fit together connecter pens. Guitars, Bass, Drums, Vocals- everything was rad...just one thing though...

I felt like I was watching Liza Minelli with the vocalists performance... something about the hands and the body movement and the facial expressions. Cabaret anyone? Maybe Mariah Carey...or whitney Housten.
Yeah, not sure if anyone else picked that up...maybe it's just me. Even though, they did have the crowd in their palms.

Last on was the Ripping Dylans. These guys were who I went there for.

By the fourth song in the set, I was transfixed.
The kind of transfixed where you're not sure if what your watching is totally retarded or freakin' awesome.

Fortunately for them, I'm leaning towards FREAKIN' AWESOME. Welcome everyone to your new flavour of the year.

I decided this in a song called 'Spangled Spider'?? (Yeah... not sure if that's wrong.) The drums were kick ass. I can't describe it. Then in one of the next tracks (I'm not your casanova?) a guitar riff had my jaw dropping. I just want a cd so bad now.

These guys just melded into a ball of fandom for me. I was kind of hesitant at the start because I've been waiting to see them for ages which usually means I'll be disappointed. Not so fortunately.

Whilst many had left by that point (my friends included...booo) I can safetly say, they missed out.

Fbi really did a great job. I had an awesome time.

Youtube Music

Yooouuuttuuubbbbeeee update.

Was just shown this awesome Yotube feature they've added.

If you type in www.youtube.com/disco you can type in your fav artist and youtube will combine a massive playlist of songs by that artist. It will even show what it considers to be related artists.

Doesn't seem to show minor artists but it's still radalicious.

Yaha.

Check it out.

Everything Everything...again

My Kz, Ur BF. (my keys, your boyfriend for those who don't use text speak)

MEEEEWWWWW. Mew

Mew. MEW. MMEEWWWWWW.

Sounds like an animal sound to me. One that then happens to make delightful music.

Can you imagine a class of small children when asked what sound a Mew makes. They would all start singing and playing wonderfully. It'd be like a less scary scene of Alice in Wonderland. Nice visuals, lovely music and a dreamy feel in the air.

I wasn't expecting much when I saw an article that hyped them up.

Needless to say I definately got more than expected. But, wow. These guys are awesome. I'm practically shocked.

Been awhile since my last mini-obsession. Not one bad song on their myspace.

Boy and Bear

Boy and Bear- Mexican Mavis

Statement about Good God

Dear Good God Small Club,

While it was nice to know that you let the boys from Mumford and Sons put the moves on you in the basement of La Campana, I thought you slutted it up a bit much.

You just spread your legs and let everyone in. I mean, please, Five bands and how many audience members?

You packed a lot into such a tight space...if you know what I mean...

You don't?

Oh...

Well, you see... 5 songs a band... not exactly time to make love to the audience there. Just crash, strum, thankyou man.

I didn't see it all happen but, from what I did see, I thought maybe Boy and Bear must be used to the premature ending because they pulled off really well, leaving you a little wet between the ooh ahh, kind of panting for more.

Others like the man who's name you cannot remember (and for good reason too) seemed to just prod you, not really breaking through. Not to mention he was a little rude... yeah, hardly even a hello.

Sherlocks Daughter tried though. They attempted to make love to you with the crazy noise and the vocals (althought the mating ritual happening between two of the band members on stage might have left you feeling a little unwanted... she might as well have marked her territory on him).

All in all, you made everyone feel claustrophobic and a little uneasy. I really think you need your throat checked too, because the crap coming out of that was God aweful. You were distorted at times.

I think maybe you should drop everyone a line before we got to an intimate booty call and realise it's actually an out of control orgy.

Jus' Sayin'.

Love Marie

Hello beard lovers

This is a Youtube channel I watch called Wheezy Waiter. He's funny and cute and you kind of want to touch his beard, don't you?

Don't.

So what does this guy have to do with music you say?

EVERYTHING.

I was watching his back catalogue for entertainment purposes the other day and it involves the 'Tour De Beard' series which is with his band Driftless Pony Club.

Now, if I really like someone I automatically assume their band is shirt (you'll get it if you watch the video).

Thankfully I've been wrong. This time included.

This is Driftless Pony Club:

They also have an amusing channel here.

Booyah! Also, thinking of making my own channel. Content suggestions?

Untasteable Muffins

So the art and music collective of Uninhabitable Mansions seem to be pushing out rad music babies like musical rabits on viagra.

So here's a list of checkage:

Pursesnatchers, a Brooklyn band making sweet, sweet indie. They're on Death by Audio records. Who seem to have it going on in the sexiest of ways.

I say this because Grooms is on Death by Audio.

So, Dirty On Purpose. Freakin' awesome. Now imagine if that awesome was said by Daggot in Angry Beavers? Yeah, that's how awesome they are. Norb would agree.
